Family Flying the Nest

It has been a year of change. My children are growing up so well. I am proud of all three of them. But it does mean a change in my focus, they do not need quite so much of my attention. Usually when I have time to do stuff, they are working, studying, or hanging with their friends. I know it is what I raised them to do and I so want them to have their own lives and experiences. Now I have to let them go and do their thing.

This Easter weekend it was particularly apparent. My oldest has his own spot downtown near his work. It has been really hard but I have been waiting for him to text me instead of texting every time I think of it. I did not hear from him until Sunday morning before going to my parents for Easter dinner. My middle guy is in the midst of his final project for second year engineering at UPEI, so he did not go to any of the family gatherings because he had to submit assignments periodically throughout the holiday weekend. My baby drove us to both of our family gatherings. She is graduating from high school this year and is already registered for her courses at UPEI next year. Where or where did my babies go.

My husband and I are spending lots of time together. I am so glad that we have stayed close because most evenings and weekends it is to two of us. On Friday, we took our dog, Molly for a walk on the beach while both the kids that live at home worked. We stopped in at Fleece & Harmony on the way so I could pick up yarn to draft new sock patterns for the summer season. Saturday we went  to the market and did some shopping before picking our baby up from work and going to visit family in Summerside. Sunday was dinner with my family including my oldest and youngest. Monday we got to relax. I so needed a down day.

We are watching the new Anne of Green Gables series on CBC, so I looked up my Anne books and have started rereading. I do this fairly regularly but it has been a few years this time. Last night I finished the first book. I like how they are true to the book while adding a bit of the darker side of life during that time period.
